Julie Hudak and Tara Deringor, both licensed Physical Therapists with backgrounds in business, met while working at The Children’s Institute in Pittsburgh, PA. Julie and Tara shared an office and hit it off right away. They have a lot in common, most importantly their passion to make a difference in the lives of children who are either developmentally delayed or have a disability or special need.
As independent contractors, Julie and Tara felt a lack of peer and interdisciplinary support from the rest of the EI community even though they had an extensive professional network. A few of the reasons that Julie and Tara began thinking, talking and then working toward forming TEIS (Therapeutic Early Intervention Services) were the lack of an articulated shared mission, and encouragement to increase their knowledge through continuing education beyond the requirements of the state and professional licensing organization. In addition, they longed to be part of a group of committed professionals with whom they could discuss cases (following HIPAA laws, of course) to ensure the most effective treatment plans.
TEIS was created in 2004. In addition to Julie and Tara, who were treating children at this point, there were 5 other therapists. Within 6 months TEIS grew to 12 employees providing physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.
TODAY
On July 1, 2011 TEIS was recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare as a designated Early Intervention provider offering treatment in Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties and initial evaluations in Beaver County.
TEIS has 40 therapists covering 7 disciplines, a front office staff of 4, and offices in Squirrel Hill and Forest Hills.
TEIS therapists consult experts and utilize a wide variety of resources within their specific disciplines, but they do not view the children in their care or the families of these children as text book cases! TEIS therapists share the passion that led Julie and Tara to become therapists in Early Intervention.
TEIS’ shared mission is to provide individualized, child-led, family-centered, play-based treatment to help children reach their full potential.
All TEIS therapists are encouraged to attend continuing education courses, to specialize within their discipline and to share their knowledge with the entire team.
TEIS is a company that consists of equal-minded, talented, generous professionals who cherish their roles as therapist, mentor, counselor, expert and friend to their colleagues and to the families and children with whom they are honored to work and play.
At TEIS, Your Child’s Progress is our Passion SM
